The Primacy of Justice（正义作为社会制度的首要美德）
“Justice is the first virtue of social institutions, as truth is of systems of thought. A theory however elegant and economical must be rejected or revised if it is untrue; likewise laws and institutions no matter how efficient and well-arranged must be reformed or abolished if they are unjust.”
The Veil of Ignorance（无知之幕）
“The original position is understood as a purely hypothetical situation… Among the essential features of this situation is that no one knows his place in society, his class position or social status, nor does any one know his fortune in the distribution of natural assets and abilities, his intelligence, strength, and the like. The parties do not know their conceptions of the good or their special psychological propensities. The principles of justice are chosen behind a veil of ignorance.”
The Two Principles of Justice（正义二原则）
- First Principle (Equal Liberty Principle): “Each person is to have an equal right to the most extensive basic liberty compatible with a similar liberty for others.”
- Second Principle (Difference Principle & Fair Equality of Opportunity): “Social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are both (a) reasonably expected to be to everyone’s advantage (especially the least advantaged), and (b) attached to positions and offices open to all.”
